Starter English

This is an 8 week component of the course and ideal for learners who have little or no knowledge of English. No placement test is required. The course is designed to give learners the confidence to continue with English Language lessons.

Please contact the school for start dates.

Morning Classes

Morning Classes are based on a course book, however there is a strong emphasis on speaking and listening activities as well as grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing exercises. The practice activities in each lesson provide frequent opportunities for realistic, natural interaction. The topics are interesting and current.

Afternoon Classes

This is an opportunity for learners to expand their reading and writing skills. Learners are encouraged to bring real life reading and writing tasks from home to use as classroom exercises. These could be:

  • Writing a CV
  • Reading a school report
  • Writing a note to a teacher
  • Completing a form
  • Writing a letter
  • Reading instructions

We can also offer a further opportunity to have extra speaking and listening practice. We are very flexible and try to cater for student’s individual needs if we can.

Start Dates

General English Start Dates

Students can start on any Monday (or Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday).

Assessments

Every Friday mornings we have a progress assessment. This enables you and your teacher to see if you have learnt what you have been taught the previous week.

At the end of each level their will be a final assessment. We will discuss the results with you and make a decision on whether you are ready to move up a level.

Courses Progress

The levels of Starter, Elementary, Pre Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate create a pathway so you progress at the same rate in all the main skills areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The length of time taken to achieve the learning outcomes of the course is determined by your prior knowledge and skills and your progress through the levels.

Homework

Homework will be given each day for self study and improvement. This provides valuable practice for you to reflect and revise on the days lessons. This should only take half hour per day. Please talk to your Tutor or the Director of Studies if you have any problems in completing the homework.
