TPE will provide you with assistance to help you find suitable accommodation. If you need help please contact the Director of Studies.
We do not assess accommodation for you but will be available for advice and help with any concerns or issues you may have.
For homestay accommodation we refer students to a reputable homestay company. This is a free service however the homestay company will charge a homestay placement fee.
We want to make your time with us a success. To make this happen, we are keen to assist and support you in your learning.
Your tutor or any other staff member can help you with your learning needs and any learning problems you might have. Your tutor can also advise you about further study choices.
The Director of Studies can help you with any personal or health problems. They may refer you to an outside person or agency if you need special assistance.
TPE wants to create a place of learning that is safe and enjoyable for you. If you have any concerns, then please do not hesitate to discuss these with TPE staff. We are here to help you and can arrange someone to speak with you in your first language if this would be helpful.
On Friday at morning break time we say "good-bye" to those students who are leaving, they will receive a certificate of achievement. We also make any school announcements and let you know of any activities that are happening in Christchurch over the weekend.
The prices below are estimates of some living expenses and are only provided as a guide.
We know you will enjoy your studying with the TPE, and we welcome any opportunity to make things better for you. TPE will help you as much as possible, so if something is wrong, please let us know and we will put it right. If you feel unhappy with your tutor for any reason, discuss it with your tutor first and then if necessary with the Director of Studies.
If you wish to make a complaint, please see the Director of Studies. If the problem cannot be resolved by the Director of Studies, the Managing Director may be consulted. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the complaint they can take the complaint to the following external bodes for considerations:

In order to withdraw from a course of study you must advise the Director of Studies and put your request in writing.
If this enrolment is cancelled before the nominated starting date, fees will be refunded except for any enrolment fee and homestay placement fees or 10% of payment, whichever is the lesser.
For courses of up to four weeks if the student withdraws within the first two days of the course 50% of the tuition fees will be refunded.
For courses of five to eleven weeks if the student withdraws within the first five days of the course 75% of the tuition fees will be refunded.
For courses of twelve weeks or more if the student withdraws within the first seven days after the first day of study, the fees will be refunded except for $NZ500 or 10% whichever is the lesser.
After the above withdrawal deadlines no fees except for unused homestay fees will be refunded. We do not refund fees or give a free extension of the course if the student:
We do not give extra weeks of part-time study in place of pre-paid full-time study. TPE reserves the right to alter its refund policy in the event of a change to New Zealand legislation.
If TPE requires a student to leave the course after the first eight days for not complying with the conditions of enrolment, tuition fees will not be refunded.
If TPE cancels or is no longer delivering or capable of delivering the course for which learners are enrolled in a full refund will be given.
Where TPE cancels a course before the start date due to lack of numbers then learners will be given a full refund.
In the case of closure, insolvency or withdrawal of accreditation or course approval by NZQA, TPE will have in place a learner fee protection arrangement covering all fees. Learners will have choice of another provider, should the course or provider close, or a pro-rata refund.
You will be notified of currency exchange rates at the time of enrolment when all fees are required to be paid. Refunds are made at the current exchange rate and student will be notified of that rate at the time of the request to withdraw.
TPE complies with NZQA requirements to protect student fees. Student fees are not at risk in the event of the closure of the TPE. Fees received are placed in a trust account and the trustee’s contact details are:

TPE has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the ‘Pastoral Care of International Students’ published by the Minister of Education. Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http://www.acc.co.nz.
